Hello XJ!

We are glad to present you the fifth edition of the Weekly Reloaded, and our sincere apologies for not being able to present the last weekly due to a dearth of material inputs. However, this week we shall bring you an interesting interview, some thought-provoking articles, some new map sneak-peeks, as well as the regular review sections. So just sit tight, and enjoy your ride

DEMO REVIEWS



The last two weeks were definitely a few of the memorable ones here, at XJ. Surprisingly not just because of the huge number of demos released. An astonishing count of 45 world records were released during this time, majority of them were a real treat to the eye. We had therefore some serious difficulty in picking out the best 5 among them. (Yes, we raised the special count demos to 5 this week from the previous weeks "Best 3"). So, if you have missed out the last two weeks activity, check out the following:

1. KZ_cg_extreme by koukouz in 07:36.46: When zhady improved his own time on kz_cg_extreme by 35 seconds on -link-, a majority of the community believed that probably this was another end release of this map. But koukouz managed to pull out this map with a 12 seconds further improvement, in addition to a visually-appealing back strafe in the midst of the run; which makes the demo a treat to the eye. Without any doubt, this demo gets to be one of the best demos of the week.

2. sld_bside_nightblock by koukouz in 01:48.95: Another example of a clean run by koukouz where he manages to snatch the former record on this map from sKiCg. The way this map is being improved over the times, it seriously poses the question, is it the end or do we get to see more ??

3. kz_stoneblock_ez by koukouz 01:45.30: A near-perfect demo on one of the most famous maps of kreedz, which had been beaten and rebeaten about 21 times by esteemed recorders like brian, heL^_x, zhady, TrageDy, juanch0x, daza, kimo, and dujes (the list never ends).The former World Record on this map by heL^_x has been improved by almost a huge margin of 5 seconds, which certainly adds to the viewing pleasure of this demo.

4. cg_strafejumpZ by mgD in 01:02.40: Back from his long-drawn days of hibernation, mgD seems to be into active recording once again. And this demo is definitely worth a watch, with a neat and precise run, amalgamated with some sick strafes.

5. kz_owensvalley by pizza^ in 02:22.66: The talented newcomer pizza^ managed to grab a quick one from koukouz in his last release with an amazing run on this map, which makes this demo a must-watch. Do make it a point to check out the conversation at the end of the demo which is sure to make you roll on the floor laughing.

1. tranCyfast, the maker of trC_climbgarden has already released the sequel of this map along with another speed map on his steam blog and is preparing the release of trC_equilotica.

2. pLANE wants to complete the famous synergy trio and therefore is working on synergy2, that will be "as hard as synergy_x", only that this time it will be concentrated on climbing.

Though this is only going to be released in the future, still we have been provided with two screenshots:

MOVIE REVIEWS AND PROJECTS



1. Feet Off The Floor by VoNK^: A movie that started off with a contradictory and "not so" fitting in intro and slowly picked up pace, This movie featured a lot of trickjumpers namely S7R1K3R, wemera, VoNK^, FLOPPY, sAllow, spogi, Akseon, subwayz, Bananus, NAPZ and gen4y, who managed to pull off some interesting jumps in style. Featuring some cool soundtracks and a productive text usage, this movie boasts of having some good quality jumps that definitely adds to the value of the movie. This work of art is definitely worthy of having a place in your kz movie collection!

2. The ROTW movie featured koukouz's impressive run on sld_bside_nightblock, the movie by ZMX. The ROTW series is back, with some new promising features and participations, and it is expected to deliver a whole set of new experiences from now on with newer and promising moviemakers.

3. Nubz, who has created movies such as Code 1337 and The Triple, is about to release a new movie called Cloudy Night, starring theddy. We have been promised some intense trickjumps and Nubz has been kind enough to give us a few screenshots:

4. n0ztic, the Norwegian moviemaker, is ready to come to the limelight once again as he will appear in a new movie named Perfecting Perfection, but this time as a jumper. The movie is going to be edited by Lazze. He already made a teaser for the movie,

First of all, why don't you introduce yourself to the ones who don't know you.

Timmycakes:
Well, my name is Timmy, I'm 22 and live in Ohio (USA). I graduated college with a computer science degree and I've been hooked on video games since I got my first Atari and Asteroids was all the rage. I love sharing my maps with fellow cs-ers and hearing what they think of them; it helps me grow as a mapper.

How long have you been mapping for?

I couldn't rightly say at the moment but 5 years sounds about right to me. I got into it when a cs community was offering free admin for maps so I figured I'd try my hand in designing. I've always loved the idea of being able to manipulate the world as one saw fit. Unfortunately I've been cursed with the "gifts" of realism and detail instead of true creativity and ideas so as a result I can recreate better than simply create.

具体时间不太记得了,大概5年了吧,自从CS的地图制作对外开放我就开始着手了,我热衷于能够以一种看起来合适的方式来操纵这个世界。我本想用我的创造力和观念去使简单的创作更进一步,但很不幸的被现实主义和细节阻止了(这句话翻译的相当纠结)

Why don't you tell us about the first kz map you ever made?

你制作的第一个KZ地图是哪个

Timmycakes:
Well I actually just reposted a link to it on the map presentation forum, it was tc_duskblock. It was originally tc_shockablock, named for my friend Shocka J but upon rethinking the concept, I decided to make it a desert themed map. To be honest I think it turned out rather well, although the atmosphere was lacking and there were bugs here and there. Duskblock was pretty universally accepted by the players but it was sadly denied and I got discouraged and never bothered to fix it up (as per the old map check process) or resubmit. The rmf was lost unfortunately and I have no ambition to remake it.

事实上那次我只是在网站上重新编辑了下地图的链接,那是tc_duskbloc,原本他叫做tc_shockablock,以我的朋友Shocka J命名。不过我重新考虑了下决定把他做成以沙漠为主题的地图,事实上我认为那张图相当不错,虽然背景做的不是很好,而且还有许多的漏洞。
Duskblock被大众所接受了,不过悲哀的是我气馁了,从不打算去修复它或者重新上传它,源文件很不幸的丢失了,我没有心情再去制作它了

People have noticed some of your beautiful maps you have posted, is there any chance were gonna see some more official maps from you?
你发布了许多精美的地图,他们会成为官方地图么?
Timmycakes:
Hopefully brickfacility, emblem, and with a little luck, abstract_plane can be fine-tuned enough to be accepted as official. I worked hard on all of them and the community seems to like them a lot. There has been talk of the "Timmycakes Paradox", which is "superb map look, boring jumps" and I hope to dispatch this paradox with emblem and brickfacility. For those asking about stairblock, I don't think I will finish it; something about it I just do not like unfortunately. Maybe sometime in the distant future...

brickfacility, emblem是很有希望的,重新调整的abstract_plane足够幸运的话也会成为官方地图的,我在它们上面投入了大量的经历,看起来人们也蛮喜欢这些地图的,它们被称之为“TIMMY驳论”,说那些地图很华丽,跳点却很无聊,我希望在emblem 和brickfacility
上有所改观。有人问起stairblock的消息,我不认为我会完成它,不幸的是我不喜欢这张图了。也许在遥远的将来会搞定他吧


I've been working on a hard/extreme map lately and I have some nice screenshots (I think). It doesn't actually have a name yet, but that will be decided later on. It's still a work in progress, I'd say about 40% done.

What do you think about the mapchecking system, and what do you think we can do to make it better?

Timmycakes:
Oh boy I knew this one was coming... Well I believe the idea of a new system with which to weed out lower-grade maps is a good thing. There will always be people submitting bad maps, though, and it is something the community has to deal with. I do not want to get much further into it and simply wish on the map checkers the gift of good judgement.

我就知道你会问这,我相信 去除一些糟糕的地图是一个好主意,总有一些人上传糟糕的地图,这是整个社区不得不处理的事情,我不想在这上面花费太大的精力,我只是希望那些地图检测者可以做出公平的裁断

What do you think is your best work on any type of map?

你认为你做的最好的一张地图是哪个?

Timmycakes:
It's kind of funny because personally I think abstract_plane is my best work, but I've received the harshest criticisms on that map. I do not disagree with these criticisms (for the most part), but it is odd how my idea of a good map can differ so much from someone else's. Where as with emblem, a map that literally took me 2 days to complete, and was really a throw-away project, was hailed as being "...the future of KZ" (TheCracker). Another map I really like that I have made is actually a zombie map called zm_underground. Unfortunately it was a little TOO realistic for ordinary zombie mod so it sort of got lost in the wave of zombie maps.
有趣的是我认为abstract_plane是我做的最好的,但是这张图受到了最尖刻的批评,我不认同这些观点。但是奇怪的是我的审美观怎么和这些人相差如此甚远。Emblem这张图我仅仅花了两天完成了它,这真的是一个豆腐渣工程,但这张图却广受好评,被称为“KZ的未来”。我觉得我最的好的另外一张图是张僵尸图zm_underground,不幸的是它相对于普通的僵尸模型来说太现实化了,因此它沉没在僵尸图的浪潮中、、、

Even though she will never see it, I would like to shout out to my best friend Cathy for always putting up with my goofiness and constant movie references ;D To XJ as a whole, of course, for giving me a forum to share my ideas with literally the whole world. Also a shout out to my friend Suzi who is away at college (good luck!). Oh and Plague for picking me to interview heh.

My name is Saumya, in-game nick A3T!U$. I am from India, a country where kz is unknown and a country which is unknown to kz. I have been playing Counter Strike since May,2007 and kreedzing since Dec,2009. I can manage to do some average level trick-jumps and no-check some easy bhop maps. I want to promote kreedz in my country and at the same time get better myself. Can you plz help me out regarding that matter. Any sort of help would be more than appreciated...

我叫saumya 来自印度,KZ对于她是陌生的,她对于KZ也是陌生的。我从07年5月玩CS,09年12月接触KZ,我可以完成一些普通的TJ,裸一些简单的连跳图了。我想在我的祖国宣传KZ同时也提高自己的水平,你可以帮助我么?任何稍微一点的帮助我都会感谢你的

I bet, more than 90% of the newbies wouldn't have even dreamt of being crazy enough to address such a message to one of the admins from the management crew of the community. But why ? The first and foremost reason being the misconception that pr0's never help out newbies. Secondly, even if they wanted to, by what means would they be helping such newbies out??

我敢打赌,超过90%的初学者都不会有足够的狂热去梦想给管理员去留言,为什么呢?最重要的原因是他们误以为这些精英不会去帮助他们这些初学者,其次即使他们想去帮助这些新人,该用哪种方法呢?

While all of the admin staff and the sensible, dedicated members of XJ are busy trying to make the site look more "professional" by applying means such as getting new designs for the website, organizing tournaments such as "pro-challenge" and "pro-league", promoting kz viz ROTWs, etc. has anyone ever put a thought, what has been done for the "newcomers" ?? Does posting a "Kreedz Tutorial", replying kindly to the private messages from newbies and advising them "Practice" sound enough ??
所有的管理层都致力于发展XJ是它看起来更加专业化,比如网站的新设想,组织类如精英挑战赛,精英部落这样的比赛,提升kz的ROTW??有没有人想过,我们为新手做了什么?举办KZ教学,友好的回复新人的信件 建议他们做足够的联系?
The point that is to be noted is that promoting and making a way for the newcomers should be one of the first and foremost motto of the community. The next question that arises is "how"??

应该找到这样一种方式 使人们能够认识到新人是社区发展的首位,这点应该受到关注,随即下一个问题就出现了。怎样去做呢?



One of the easiest and obvious ways would be to organize "amateur leagues" for kreedz newcomers. Budding mappers, movie-makers, coders, etc should be given more chances to showcase their talent. Admins and/or pro kreedzers should devote some of their free time (even if it is 10-15 minutes) on a regular basis to help out newcomers with their doubts/ queries over IRC and/or steam on a one-to-one basis.

最容易也是最明显的一个方法就是为新人去组办业余爱好者社团 这样的活动,地图制作者,影片制作者 编译员 这样的爱好者应当被给予更多的机会使他们的才华得以展现。管理层和精英KZER应当贡献出他们的一些业余时间(即使只有10-15分钟)去定期的在IRC和STEAM上一对一的帮助新人

There could be a lot of other better ways in which the aforementioned goal can be achieved. Its an earnest request to all the members of XJ to come forward with innovative as well as practical new ideas to facilitate the same.

还有很多比上述更好的方法,这是一个真诚的请求,希望XJ的所有成员未来都可以用革新的,适用的思想来处理类似的问题

At the end of the day, sometimes even a "few encouraging words" also works out wonders for some of the newcomers instead of rolling on the floor laughing at comments, or rather I should say requests, like "Teach me pro-jumps"...

在今天即将结束的时候,请多为新人说几句赞赏的话而不是嘲笑他们。当然,我也应该提出请求比如 “精英队员们 请教教我”

PS: ndR and many others (you know who) helped out newcomers like me to achieve whatever knowledge and skill I have as of now. May be I was lucky, but is every newcomer lucky as I am ??

PS: NDR和其他一些人(你们知道是谁)经常去帮助新人(比如我),来掌握眼下的各种知识和技能,也许我是幸运的,但是其他的新人都和我一样幸运么?
